Addis Abeba, October 28/2021 – Luwam Atikilti, a journalist at Ahadu Radio and TV made her second appearance at Arada First Instance Court after she was arrested by Addis Abeba police on October 22, 2021. At the hearing today, the court granted the police additional Eight days to remand and investigate Luwam who first appeared in court on Saturday, October 21, 2021. 

When asked about the investigation, the police answered by explaining that they wrote a letter to Ethio Telecom and National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) to look into her online activities, which they said is integral to the ongoing investigation. 

Luwam’s defense lawyer asked the court to grant her bail until the police receive a response from the said institutions. The court however decided to give additional eight days to remand and investigate Luwam, and adjourned the court until November 05, 2021. 

Luwam Atakilti was arrested by Addis Abeba police last Friday, after she reported that forces loyal to TPLF have taken over Hayik, a small town in South wollo zone. Kibrom Worku, the editor and head of the news department was also arrested on the same date.  

Their lawyer Tigabu Desalgn, told Addis standard Kibrom was arraigned at Federal First instance court  Arada branch yesterday where the court granted the police additional Nine days to remand and investigate him. AS
